Back to Basics

"Sam, what's a jab supposed to do?" he asked me.

"Set everything up, feel him out, open him up, keep him off you. Everything," I answered.

"Yeah, well a jab is supposed to push his nose through his face. Start with that. Then work on those other things."

Monday Action

Here's Yodsanklai vs Wayne Parr #3, which took place late last year. These two had fought twice previously with Yod winning both fights by decision.

There was a lot of discussion surrounding the outcome of this 3rd fight, but either way it's still entertaining. Enjoy!

Location, location, location: 96 Penang Gym

"Klong Toei is home to one of the largest urban slums in the world. Residents live in a cluster of corrugated iron shacks, along active railways, wedged between shipping yards and over-passing expressways.

Beneath one of those expressways sits 96 Penang, a local Muay Thai gym with a proven reputation for producing champion fighters. Kids of all ages train here. These kids approach the sport with aseriousness and dedication well-beyond their years.

I take my hat off to them, and to the dedicated people who run the gym, offering the kids of Klong Toei a place to find confidence, self-respect, love and a sense of meaning in a world where drugs, violence, prostitution and death are a fact of life."

Weekend Fight Post: Hippy Singmanee vs Chanlit Tor Soonan

One of the things that surprises me is how little Muay Thai elbows are seen in the popular MMA scene. I don't mean elbows mixed into a ground and pound...

I mean Muay Thai elbows when moving or staying in close range: whether it's fighting in the 'pocket' or a clinch up.

Whether it's an MMA, Muay Thai or even a street fight, elbows are the most dangerous natural weapon of the body. They won't be gloved up and they don't have the numerous small bones that risk injury when punching. Like any technique, they do require skill to use properly, but it seems like they should be no brainer to have in a pro MMA fighter's arsenal.

Consider that, as you watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3lHIdyXFiw
