Holiday Hours!

YMT is closed from Thursday December 22 to Tuesday December 27th.
We are also closed New years eve and New Years Day, but there will be 530 and 730pm classes on the Monday following.

Everyone have a safe holiday and enjoy it with your loved ones :)

FOR THOSE WHO STILL WANT TO TRAIN ON THOSE CLOSED DAYS:
talk to Tenzin, PC Geny and myself. We each have keys and will be training throughout.

I will be there on Thursday at 5, if you want to come in and do your own training or with some of the others. I will close around 730...unless one of the other people with keys stays longer.

That's all :)

Buffalo Results

Here are Saturday nights results:

Sweaty went the full three rounds, showing the heart of a lion, but lost a unanimous decision to a strong opponent.

Tranny had a dominant first round with knees, but was unable to continue mid way through after a joint injury.

Durst rematched his last opponent for what was largely a repeat of their previous bout. His opponent was very game and much more aggressive this time. However, Durst once again had a dominant 3 round fight for a unanimous decision win.

Patrick fought last. His original opponent backed out. Luckily, our friends from Training Ground Mississauga had a fighter weighed in and ready to go at Patrick's weight. The two had a very technical first round of exchanges, until Patrick landed a strong teep to his opponent's jaw. His opponent was not knocked out, but did sustain a serious cut, which resulted in a TKO win for Fingers.

Lastly, our friend from Victory, Andrew Poon, could not compete against Zhang due to a health issue. Andrew was nice enough to make the trek down to show support for the Canadian athletes.

Congratulations goes to Noel Hussey from our friends at Training Ground. He won the USMTA amateur Heavyweight title via TKO in the first round. Opening up with some fast and hard kicks, then finishing the fight with a freight train of a 1-2.

Chok Dee! YMT in West Seneca Nov 5th!

Good luck to our fighters tmrw: Patrick, Sweaty, Durst, Zhang and Tranny.
They are scheduled to take on their opponents in West Seneca on an amateur Muay Thai fight card! The team has been preparing hard...it's time to "throw down"!! *Zhangisms*

Also, the blue class is cancelled since most of the team will be away at that time for the fights.

MPL fights and Into the Fire Episode 2

By popular demand, Warrior Caste Productions and the MPL have uploaded Into the Fire Episode 2 on Vimeo (featuring Bad Boy, whom most of you have seen or met).

Also, for a limited time, Ky Hollenbeck vs Jordan Watson is on the channel. It seems MPL has been uploading popular fights from their cards for short periods of time. Just a few days ago, they had Liam Harrison vs Khamal, whihttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifch is now off the channel. Watch them while they are up!

Congratulations!

New Blue Shorts! Sibbio, Dr Stef, Zena, Vicky, Oshry, Zhang, Allen, Mel, Sugi and Tenzin all passed their blue.

Blue is one of the few gradings we have in our system of teaching. It pushes students' conditioning and tests their basic Muay Thai technique. These Blue students are now challenged to push themselves to develop further in learning, fighting, coaching and conditioning. With what we have seen so far, we expect all of them to make us proud :)

Join Fitocracy

Thanks to Science Guy for hooking us up! Here's Fitocracy, the social game you play to level up your fitness.

It's pretty much a way to log your workouts, and get "points" that level you up. As you level up, you get quests (that challenge you to do progressively harder things and give you more points). It's basically an RPG for your fitness.

Yes, you can be lame and cheat and say you did a thousand push ups. But really, only you lose, cause your body will show it. And the really fit people will just hate on you harder. So don't be lame!

If you are interested, go to the invite link below, create a profile, then search and join the "York Muay Thai" group :)

Support Disabled Students at York University! YMT runs the Scotiabank Marathon to raise funds!

Mike Zhang has been training hard for the upcoming Scotiabank marathon and has enlisted the help of a few others from our MT community to raise funds for Disabled Students at York University.

This is a great cause, so please support him or any of the other runners!

"Hey everyone!!!!

On Oct. 16, 2011, I will be participating in the Scotia bank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5k Run / Walk while raising funds for Disabled Students at York University. Support my charity group by pledging my team and me.

I feel that some of us take for granted how lucky we are to be heathly and fit enough to train muay thai. Let's come together as a team, and as people to encourage those less fortunate.

:)"

Weekend Fight Post

Here is Coban Lookchaomaesaitong vs. Noppadet Sorsamroeng. As most of you know, Coban was in town this weekend for the Muay Thai Expo, guest teaching with Ajahn Suchart and Ajahn Amnat. Ian and I had the opportunity to visit the expo for the first day to learn from these veterans.

For 45 years old Coban truly looks incredible. Complete with an 8 pack. Him and Ajahn Suchart standing next to each other is just amazing.

Here's a blurry phone pic of the two with me. I better look as good as they do at that age:
